Summery

New media has made a tremendous impact on society. Scholars are becoming more interested and are investing in the relationship between intercultural communication and the new media. Scholars have separated this relationship down into three groups; one the impact on the nations ethical culture of development, two new media on cultural/society identity, and three the impact of media on different aspects of intercultural communication.

New media has impacted globalization by allowing people to be able to communicate with multiple persons simultaneously. This is shown to be a more effective way of communicating while still maintaining individual messages. New- media allows large amounts of data and information to be retrieved and stored. New-Media opens up the door for electronic communication and electronic development. This makes it more efficient for large companies to make connections with one another. The Internet is a powerful force that allows interactions to be successful between users. The new-media brings a global network, which has begun to rebuild life experiences and human communication. This leads to creating virtual communities that cross the boundaries of human society. The freedom to control the information was in the virtual communities takes globalization to high point.

The impact that new media has on intercultural communications is based upon the complex understanding of how people of other cultures and ethnicities communicate. Media creates a gap between traditions and innovations within a culture. The constant speed of New-Media allows cultures to re-evaluate their patterns and practices. New Media gives cultures opportunities to learn new ways to bridge the gaps. More scholars are trying to determine the elements that will enhance the relationship between intercultural communications and new media.

The cultural element of communication plays a role in the process and the outcome of human communication. Factors include thought patterns, expression styles, and cultural context. These factors contribute to the behavior of electronic media within different cultures. Based upon weather the cultures are high or low content cultures. A determining factor will be based upon how utilize and interact with new-media. Social networking is used as motivation for people to establish relationships. It offers flexibility to be able to stay connected and share information through virtual communities.

Scholars are starting to realize that New-Media is becoming a part of society. New-Media is characterized as a cultural necessity. New-Media has played a role in cultural development and cultural identity. Social media has created new experiences for human interaction with new ways of representing the world. New cultural identity formed buying new media may not change the traditional meaning of the culture. This gives the older generations a sense of belonging. The use of new-media is the root of cultural identity by weakening or strengthening the relationships with other people and communities.

how writing works in communication

If I wanted to know how writing worked in my field I would first take to one of my professors who was either written a research article or one of our text books. I would want to know why did they feel like it would be necessary to use writing. In the communication field we read a lot of written pieces but never really know the significance behind it.  The next thing I would to know is what would promote writing in our field.

I really like how the first part of the article talked about the author experience reading academic articles and reading in general. I have a hard time reading myself because I have a hard time retaining the information and filtering through the important parts. As a communication studies major I do read a lot of academic articles, when I did my first communication project I had to find and use five academic articles.  I had to pull out different pieces of information from each different section of the articles. I was intimidated because it was something that I was not used to and I didn’t know what I was looking for. The structure and vocabulary that was used didn't exactly help the situation either, I had a moment where I felt like I couldn't read or didn't have's strong enough vocabulary to comprehend the articles.

I liked the way the author explains how authors of the academic articles have a purpose for writing them. I also like the way she explains why we read academic text. It started to make me understand more of why I have read so many of them. I also think it's important to understand the role of the reader as well. I agree with the author when she says that readers also have an agenda. This was something that I never thought about. My agenda as a reader is usually to complete the reading before class and be prepared for what's next.

My favorite thing about this article was the different reading strategies used for rhetorical reading. I think it's extremely important when reading how to read academic articles. I wish I had these tips and tools when I first started reading these articles. I love how the author breaks down each part of the article and matches it with each strategy. I didn't learn how to read scholarly articles and tell I took an introduction to research methods class. There are so many things I didn't think of to consider that would help me be more efficient when reading these articles. I really like the last strategy of paying attention to the main idea; I think this is something that will be beneficial to me in the near future.

Overall I found this article to be very useful and helpful. I wish I read this article before I learned how to approach scholarly articles. There were so many great tips and suggestions I will definitely use these different strategies to help me get better at working with these scholarly articles in the future.

Portrait of a writer

Portrait of a writer

I think the term writer is very broad. I think there are many different types of

writers. I think the term writer is mostly associated with people like authors,

journalist, professors, and other scholars. I don't see myself in any of those categories.

I think that I’m a fairly decent writer. I think I have foundation for improvement and I

always have room to grow. I feel like my writing suffer because I have so many

different ways to write something and sometimes I don’t ways pick the best way.

I see myself more of composer. I love to create music. I get such the joy from it. I love being able to tell my story and share my thoughts my feelings and dreams in a different and universal way. There is a great deal of freedom that comes along with writing music. I feel like I can say whatever I want to say however I want to say it. It is good for me because there are times when I don't always know what to say or how to say it. The only rule in writing music is follow through with the time signature and key signature that you choose to write in. I found writing music has been therapeutic for me it's help me to get things that I've been holding in for so long and it's help me to feel better about myself as a person. The inspiration for my songs comes from my life experiences. Most of them are about things that have happen to me.

I really don’t like writing papers because I think that there are so many rules and restrictions in different formats to writing papers. Every teacher that I have written a paper for wanted it to been don in different style or format. There are rules to learning and understanding the different formats and styles they want. When I prepare to write a paper and I tried to think about what's being asked of what do and me I want to say and how to say it. give myself a game to just think about how to approach writing the paper and I try to give myself time to actually do the research. Then I try to filter what information I need and what I don’t need. I prepare for different papers differently. When I write research paper I try to plan that out in advance and break everything down and then if I'm writing a reflection paper I need time to really think about it before I can write it. There have been some papers where I can write the main point but the problem I had is expanding in elaborating on the point that I'm trying to make.  I really don’t mind writing reflection papers because they are short. I like that been able to go back and look at something that I did are analyze and see what types of mindset I was in. I think it’s good to back and revisit work you’ve done.

Being a communications studies major I wrote a lot of papers that were interpretive.  The first paper I wrote was as a communication major was to pick a topic that we covered and write a reflection paper based on how we interpret the information and to see what elements of the topic we understood. I read a lot of journal articles. I had one class that was about research methods and in there we wrote a paper on the research methods that we were doing for our projects. We did a quantitative project and we had to conduct a study and then we re-created the research article of her everything that we did. It was hard because they are different components to a journal article so we had to plug in our information to where it would be an different sections require different things so you really had to plan it out and think before you start plugging things in.

The last paper that we did we had to create our own qualitative research study and do a full write about it. In my theory class that I took we talked about the different theories and we had to write papers about them and I had to be three paragraphs into pages long so we had to summarize the theory and then given example of the theory and then determine if that there was objective or interpretive.

My minor is in speech communications and I write a lot of speeches and I do a lot of outlines for speeches. Then at the end of presenting I wrote a lot of reflection papers that talk about how did I prepare for my speech, what went well during the speech and white didn't go out and what could I change if given the chance. It’s nice because it gives me a chance to really what I’ve done and the way I’ve done it. I really don’t like making outlines for my speeches because it makes me feel like I have to say everything that I wrote and in that order.

I like writing when there is truly freedom of expression. I like being about to open up and say what’s on my mind. I don’t think that writing should not have rules. I feel like writing is to stick and too tied down. I feel like to creative element is missing. It’s easy to get a point across but another think thing to create a way for the point to stick with someone.

After writing my first blog I learn that it’s a different way to communicate and share information and different thoughts. I learned that all creative artists have their ways of coming up with inspiration.  Over the years I’ve learned that there is no right or wrong way to express yourself. I understand that I’m my worst and harshest critic. Sometimes I think it’s good that I’m hard on myself because it helps to stay focus. Other times I think that I create more stress for myself than I need to because I am a perfectionist. I think I need to let go of the perfectionist mindset and trust myself and will help me.
